After arriving in Japan, follow the immigration and customs procedures at your port of entry. Visit Japan Web can be used for immigration and customs arrival procedures. Medium-to-long-term residents may also receive a residence card during the landing process depending on the port of entry.

- Complete immigration examinationFollow the immigration examination process at your port of entry and present the travel and immigration documentation required for your circumstances.
- Complete your customs declarationAll passengers entering Japan are required to declare their belongings to Japan Customs. Electronic declaration through Visit Japan Web is recommended by Japan Customs.

- Visit Japan Web informationIf you prepared your arrival information using Visit Japan Web, keep the information needed to access and present it available during arrival procedures.
- Residence card, where applicableIf you become a medium-to-long-term resident through landing permission, a residence card may be issued at the port of entry depending on where you arrive. Keep it secure because it is an important residence document.

Practical notes
- Visit Japan Web is an official Digital Agency service for arrival procedures including immigration and customs.
- Electronic customs declaration does not prevent Japan Customs from inspecting baggage when required.
- For medium-to-long-term residents, residence-card issuance at arrival depends on the port of entry. At other ports, the card is generally issued later after the required residence-address notification.
